The Pros of Invisalign®

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, made specifically for your smile, providing a perfect fit with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. No metal and no wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments, freeing up your time to do what you enjoy most. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Cramer has prescribed. You’ll visit Dr. Cramer about once every few weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 14 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

What Can Affect Invisalign® Treatment Time?

In certain cases, it can take as little as 6 months for patients to complete their Invisalign® treatment. However, typically a patient can expect their treatment to take between 12 and 18 months. If your case is more complicated or if you don’t follow your treatment plan correctly, it can take up to 2 years or more to complete your Invisalign® plan.

Here are a few different factors that may increase your Invisalign® treatment time:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crowding
  • Gaps
  • Your Age
  • Your compliance with your treatment plan

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Invisalign® made from?
Invisalign®’s clear aligners are made from a BPA-free, flexible, patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack®. This material was created solely for Invisalign treatment and is much more comfortable than traditional metal braces. The trays are made of the same material.

Are clear aligners right for me?
Good candidates for Invisalign® are those who do not have severe dental issues and are disciplined in wearing the aligners throughout the treatment period. Invisalign® is most often recommended for older teenagers and adults. However, with Invisalign First®, children can also now benefit from these revolutionary aligners.

Is Invisalign® painful?
The Invisalign® procedure is not painful but can leave your teeth slightly uncomfortable as they move into the desired position upon applying your new trays. If you are experiencing any mild discomfort while you’re adjusting to your new aligners, you can take your usual over-the-counter pain relievers to manage it.

How often will I need to wear my aligners throughout the day?
The trays are worn between 20 to 22 hours per day and can be easily removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. It is vital you wear your aligners for as much of the day as you can in order for your results to be timely.

How often will I need to visit Dr. Cramer during my treatment?
Throughout your treatment, you can expect to be fitted around every 6 weeks for your series of trays. These aligners will be swapped out every 1 to 2 weeks to align your teeth over the period of treatment time required.
